Caribbean dance clothes are generally characterised by very gaudy colours. They are often tight and, as far as women are concerned, they can leave a large part of the body uncovered. Caribbean dances include different styles of Salsa, Merengue and Bachata and are internationally recognised during competitions. FIDS, the Italian Dance Sport Federation, is very clear about the Caribbean dance dresses in competition. In fact, competitions require a very strict dress code level, leaving no room for the inventiveness of the participants.

Caribbean clothes: differences between man and women

Men should wear one or two colour Caribbean suitswith long and wide pants. Classic t-shirts or tank shops are absolutely forbidden for all categories; however, you can choose whether to use long or short sleeves. It's a no also to mirrored or rhinestone fabric (but only for lower categories). And the shoes: rubber soles are not allowed and you should use only dance shoes or ankle boots. You can choose whether to prefer the higher or lower cleat. Hair in a neat ponytail if you have a medium or long cut.

For women, Caribbean competition dresses are gaudy, but in a maximum of two colours and very eye-catching in terms of embellishments. Trousers are allowed, but must be baggy on the finish as it is for men. The clothes can be a two parts set, but the private parts of the body must be covered. For women too, shoes must specially designed for dance, with a heel from 3 to 9 cm, depending on the category they belong to. No hair restrictions, while wearing make up is allowed in some cases, if not too flashy.
